I was recently a guest on The Well Talks with Beverly Allen. We talked about my book, Where Faith Meets Medicine, and the truth about women's hormone health.
One thing I tell patients all the time: what's common doesn't have to be your normal. Fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and weight gain are often written off as just getting older. They're warning signs that your body needs help.
Beverly asked where a woman should start. Here are the five places I named:
Sleep. If you're not sleeping well, everything else is harder.
Lower inflammation through gut health and nutrition.
Trim toxins where you can. Doing something is better than nothing.
Balance blood sugar with whole foods, protein, vegetables, and healthy fats.
Move, and find community. Walking counts, and connection is medicine too.
We also talked about why you should get your hormone labs checked earlier than you think, even when you feel great, so you know your baseline. Most women lose progesterone and testosterone first, and estrogen usually doesn't fall sharply until closer to menopause. In the book, I share a QR code to my lab resource guide with both the normal ranges and the optimal ranges, because those aren't the same thing.
And if you're exhausted and discouraged, don't lose hope. God designed you to heal, and you're never too far gone.
